Apakah nilai uang itu? Nilai uang yaitu kemampuan uang untuk sanggup ditukarkan dengan sejumlah barang tertentu. Nilai uang tersebut sanggup dibedakan menjadi tiga macam.

a. Nilai Nominal

Nilai nominal uang yaitu nilai yang tertera/tertulis pada setiap mata uang yang bersangkutan. Contoh: pada uang Rp50.000,00 tertera angka lima puluh ribu rupiah, maka nilai nominal uang tersebut yaitu lima puluh ribu rupiah.

b. Nilai Intrinsik

Nilai intrinsik uang yaitu nilai materi yang dipakai untuk menciptakan uang.
Contoh: untuk menciptakan uang kertas Rp50.000,00 dibutuhkan kertas dan materi lainnya yang harganya Rp3.000,00, maka nilai intrinsik uang tersebut yaitu Rp3.000,00

c. Nilai Riil

Nilai riil uang yaitu nilai yang sanggup diukur dengan jumlah barang dan jasa yang sanggup ditukar dengan uang itu. Jika uang Rp1.000,00 sanggup ditukar dengan satu gelas minuman teh, maka sanggup dikatakan bahwa nilai riil uang Rp1.000,00 yaitu segelas minuman teh.

Dilihat dari penggunaannya, nilai uang dibedakan menjadi nilai internal uang dan nilai eksternal uang.

1. Nilai internal uang

Nilai internal uang yaitu daya beli uang terhadap barang dan jasa. Contoh: dengan uang Rp5.000,00 kalian sanggup membeli sebuah buku tulis, maka nilai internal uang Rp5.000,00 tersebut yaitu sebuah buku tulis.

2. Nilai eksternal uang


Nilai eksternal uang yaitu nilai uang dalam negeri, kalau dibandingkan dengan mata uang asing, yang lebih dikenal dengan kurs. Kurs ada dua macam yaitu kurs jual dan kurs beli. Kurs jual yaitu kurs yang berlaku apabila bank menjual valuta asing. Sedangkan kurs beli yaitu kurs yang berlaku apabila bank membeli valuta asing. Contoh: kalian sanggup menukarkan uang Rp9.000,00 dengan satu dollar Amerika Serikat di bank yang melayani penukaran valuta asing. Dalam hal ini nilai kurs Rupiah terhadap dollar Amerika Serikat (US $1 = Rp9.000,00).
